Outstanding. This displays copious Chablis typicity, indeed to the point that this could be from nowhere else, as the ripe but cool white orchard fruit, lemon rind, oyster shell and floral aromas are wonderfully airy and complex. There is superb intensity, in fact this is presently borderline painful on the focused, powerful and very serious finish.

From a tiny parcel of 17.5 ares which is situated in the prime part of this grand cru immediately above and next to the castle, Chezeaux produces a masterpiece that is a classic rendition of the best that this appellation can offer. Meaty, gamy, full of wild berry notes and brawny tannins, Chezeaux’s version is masculine, at times rustic and impressively age-worthy.

100% Chardonnay, coming exclusively from the Grand Cru vineyards belonging to the vinification school. The base vintage (70%) comes from 2012, with 30% vin de réserve from the 2009, 2010, and 2011 vintages, equal portions of each. Blended with 30% of wines which have not undergone any malolactic fermentation. Manual harvest. Dosage: 6g/l. Aged 6 months on lees.

Ca’ Montini is a welcome surprise from the innocuous and uninteresting Pinot Grigio often found in the mainstream market. This single vineyard wine is crisp and vibrant with notes of apple and citrus on the nose and palate with nicely balanced fruit and acidity.

The second wine from the Saint-Julien estate, this is every bit as elegant as the grand vin, its black currant fruit developing to envelop the fine tannins. There is fine fruit, plenty of acidity and a rich texture.

The Catena Cabernet Sauvignon shows a dark ruby color with violet tones. On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe raspberries and cassis with notes of pepper, clove, and a touch of cedar. On the palate, it is full-bodied and rich and displays layers of black currant and black raspberry with notes of cedar and oregano.

Straw yellow, with light amber tinges. The aromas are fruity and floral, with notes of banana, pineapple and wisteria blossoms. In the mouth it is dry with a great body and balance. Pairing it with fish dishes is a classic, but it is lovely with risottos and vegetable soups, and goes well with light white-meat dishes and delicately flavored cheeses.

Lavish aromas of black cherry pie, clove, vanilla, warm brioche, almond croissant and loamy earth show on the nose of this bottling by Etienne Terlinden from the historic vineyard. Hearty and wild blackberry flavors mix with thyme, tarragon, juniper and black tea on the palate.

Hans-Josef, the current winemaker for the J.B. Becker estate keeps older vintages around because, in a way, the wine demands it. Favoring long ageing and preferring a dry style of Riesling, the Becker wines are unlike anything else coming out of the Rheingau. Sip, savor and enjoy!

From 60 year old gamay vines, this single vineyard Cote de Brouilly is vinified semi-carbonic in large concrete tank before ageing for 11 months in old large foudres. Organic and delicious!
