A dead ringer for a classy white Burgundy, the 2014 Chardonnay la Rinconada gives up lots of green citrus and mineral characteristics in a medium-bodied, firm, focused, chiseled and crystalline style. It still has bracing levels of acidity, but there’s solid texture and depth here, and this beauty will need time to come together.

When I first started exploring wine, I didn't think I liked Pinot Noir. Then, while traveling Santa Barbara county, I tasted one from the legendary La Encantada vineyard. The experience was life changing, my eyes had finally been opened. Planted by the Santa Rita Pioneer, Richard Sanford, this vineyard is only 7 miles from the ocean, and blanketed in fog most of the day.

From one of the most scenic old vine vineyards in Sonoma Valley, this wine is deep and potently structured, with distinctive spice box and licorice aromas and densely layered flavors of blackberry, cracked pepper and smoky herbes de Provence that finish with big but ripe tannins. Best from 2019 through 2025. 4,500 cases made.

This lesser known varietal is mostly planted in southern France. Meli’s Carignan (90% Carignan and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon) is aged in both used oak barrels and stainless steel. The wine is concentrated and unique, with a distinctive balance of earth and fruit.

Balanced with great fruit purity, the combination of Black Currants and Elderberry are highly unique but work with great partnership on this semi-sweet cider. Amazing aromas of cherries and fresh flowers delight the senses while the rush of ripe fruit leads into a great finish of tart acidity. Smooth sipping for something with just a kiss of sweetness.

Crisp and tangy, this is a tightly knit wine. Apples and crisp citrus flavors are part of a package that also includes spice, a strong minerality and a perfumed aftertaste. The wine should age a few more months, so drink from 2017. This is a “village” wine in the northern Maçon area."

This is an overachieving petit chateau, an incredible bargain really in this vintage. Aged in barrel, this has good concentration, with a soft plumy fruit that makes it very appealing.

Textbook Tavel, this is a meaty, generously flavored rosé with lots of stony mineral flavor to support the red fruit. Based on grenache from 40-year-old vines and blended with a host of local varieties, the wine seems to grow in size and complexity with air, herbal notes and grapefruit acidity adding lift and freshness. Classic!

90% press wine, 10% saignee. A beautifully balanced rosé with vivacious acidity, very good balance, and enticing aromas and flavors of juicy red berries and pomegranate with excellent underlying minerality. This wine is consistently delicious, year after year.

Silky smooth, carries its ample flesh with tremendous elegance, lots of red fruits and spice. The warmth of the sun is evident in this wine, but it is masterfully directed in a graceful Aikido or Judo-like style that directs that sunny ripeness in way that comes off as attractive and charming instead of ripe or heavy, very inspirational.

A light yellow-green colored wine, with fruity and floral aromas of great intensity. Balanced acidity leads to soft, semi-sweet and slightly effervescent flavors and mouth feel. It is an extremely refreshing, vivacious and sensual wine.
