Bouza Albarino30.99Uruguay | Canelones / Montevideo100% Albariño

This Albariño started as a bit of an experiment for Bouza and has quickly turned into one of the winery’s most sought after bottlings. Pale yellow color, with golden highlights. Aromas of peach and white flowers, pineapple and pear. Moving the glass, the pineapple enhances its presence, and vanilla and caramel notes appear. The Bouza family has Galician heritage, and their winery arguably introduced Albariño to Uruguay, if not all of Latin America.

Chateau Auney l'Hermitage Graves Rouge 2014Bordeaux, France60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec

Auney l’Hermitage was gradually assembled through the reclamation of ten small domaines. Many of these properties dated back to the nineteenth century, and were abandoned. Christien Auney has chosen to maintain the separation between each of his parcels. Hint of coffee to the red currant berry fruit. A very forward and seductive wine on the tongue with silky smooth tannins.

The nose is driven the by fresh, sweet, ripe aromas of apple. Oliver's Herefordshire Dry Perry15.99Herefordshire, EnglandEnglish Pears

Tom Oliver has rescued the traditional English perry cider as well as the rare varieties that his ciders comprise of. 2015 Christian Drouin Pear Cider16.99Normandy, FrancePlant de blanc, Muscadet, Tricotin, Avenelle and Poire de Grisse pear varieties

Very bright and lucid lemon blossom seeps out of the glass along with a minerally wet slate note, with a hint of petrol in the nose, similar to a high-end Riesling. The cider is medium bodied with an elegant roundness to it, while wrapped in the cider’s strong acid foundation. The cider has a linear and distinctive finish but marries beautifully with a sweet lemony note.

Argus Cidery Vinho Pearde13.99Austin, TexasTexas pears

Taking inspiration from Spanish Vinho Verde, this pear cider pushes the boundaries of the category. This perry undergoes a lagering process, which helps refine and smooth out the fermentation flavors. Unfiltered and unpasteurized, the bright, fizzy 100% perry captures the soft sweetness of its base fruit like a snappy white wine with a firm but light carbonation of a Champagne.

Bernard Defaix 2016 Bougros69.99Chablis Grand Cru

A pungent and again overtly exotic nose is intensely petrol-suffused to the exclusion of the fruit, at least today. Otherwise there is good power and punch to the supple and super-rich broad-shouldered flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the rustic, powerful and sneaky long finish. This is an atypical effort in that it's seductive yet quite serious.

Bernard Defaix 2016 Vaudésir69.99Chablis Grand Cru

The mildly exotic aromas of various white orchard fruit, spice, petrol and ocean breeze are trimmed in enough wood to notice. The luscious, sappy and round flavors possess evident power on the driving and solidly long finish that delivers adequate but not special depth. This is a bit woody at present but the density is such that the oak treatment should integrate in time.

2018 Vaillons “Les Minots” 1er Cru89.99Chablis, France100% Chardonnay

Vaillons is one of my favorite offerings & a great value for such an amazing chardonnay. Les Minots is a single parcel of 70-year-old vines on a south-facing slope within the greater vineyard. The yields per vine are very low for Chablis, and this vineyard is one of the first to be harvested. The wine is richer in its youth than Piuze’s other premier crus and will drink well now and with aging.
