This is an entry into the bourbon field from a pioneering distiller of single-malt scotches and other spirits. The distiller blended five straight bourbon whiskeys to create a whiskey that brings in notes from each of those. The result is a dram that is lighter and less wood-laden, and one that will be a smooth, easy sipper. To us it seemed like a bargain at this price.

This blend by craft distiller High West uses bourbons aged from 2 to 13 years. The nose brings light caramel and sweet vanilla. The palate is rich and earthy with well-balanced flavors of candy corn, honey nougat and sweet corn bread biscuits, with a finish of vanilla with a hint of caramel apple. This works great in cocktails but has enough complexity to stand on its own.

This award-winning craft distiller sought to create a bourbon with the spice notes of a young rye along with the creamy sweetness that comes from an aged bourbon. The result is a smooth, spicy bourbon that won gold medals at the 2016, 2017 and 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It has also won the hearts of many bourbon fans.

Jim Beam took the unusual, somewhat controversial step of adding a touch of port to this blend of Kentucky and Canadian ryes. The result is a full-flavored, rich rye with some fruit notes from the port complementing the spice of the ryes. This makes a wonderful Manhattan, but you wouldn't be wrong if you just wanted to sip this nuanced, delicious whiskey neat.

This rye is light and fruity, but the spicy backbone and 90 proof delivery makes it perfectly sippable as well as being able to easily integrate into any cocktail where you want spice without the oak. This whiskey isn’t going to blow your mind or wow your palate, but it’s a good cheap workhorse that’s perfectly drinkable neat. -- The Whiskey Jug

Infuse takes the approach of finishing their spirits with broken barrel pieces floating in the spirit to infuse it with that extra flavor. Their rye uses French oak, Ex-Bourbon cask staves and Sherry cask staves to create a rye that is far from traditional in its processes or its flavors -- hence the "heresy." What you get is a rich, layered body and a lush, fruity finish.

This gin, from a historic distiller, has a different, less crisp flavor than the much more commonly available London Dry Gins. It uses a higher proportion of root ingredients, which bring a more earthy feel to the gin as well as a smoother juniper hit. Once the citrus and coriander dissipates, licorice and angelica dominate the palate before an unusually long finish.

This Rosé de Loire is ethereally pale, pouring a glinting light-copper in the glass. The palate continues the theme, with
vivacious acidity and a captivating combination of serenity and energy; one gets all the prettiness of Gamay without any of the excess roundness to which it is sometimes prone.

A dense matrix supports black cherry, iron, earth, tobacco and coffee flavors in this beefy red. Tips toward the tannins in the end, but stays in line.

The Family Jones Distillery blended an 8-year-old “whiskey distilled from a bourbon mash” – not technically a bourbon, but a similar mash bill – with a 4-year-old straight rye whiskey. It's a nice, light whiskey, great in an Old Fashioned or just in a glass by itself.

This is a great bargain vodka for the price, and winner of a coveted double gold medal at a recent San Francisco Spirits Competition. Soft and smooth, it works well in many classic cocktails, such as a Bloody Mary, Moscow Mule and many others.

Sourced from the Commune of Morey St. Denis, low yields produce a wine of great elegance and nuance. Total production of Bourgogne Rouge is only about 1350 bottles from vines planted in 1980 by Robert Gibourg. The size of this declassified single vineyard is less than half a hectare. The wine yielded is vibrant but delicate with flavors of ripe raspberry and rose petals.
