The producer continues to impress with this variety, an increasingly popular wine for her loyal followers and beyond. Rich in crème brûlée and vanilla, it’s layered and well-textured, a mix of pear and orange blossom with a tropical edge that finishes with a nice lift of minerality.

The Joel Gott California Sauvignon Blanc has aromas of pineapple, mango and peach with citrus notes. On the palate, the wine opens with ripe, tropical fruit flavors followed by crisp, refreshing acidity on the mid-palate and a long, clean, balanced finish.

Brunello di Montalcino is a pretty and sweetly spiced effort that places purity and balanced ripeness above all else. Dusty cherry and flowery perfumes are complemented by notes of cinnamon, cedar and a grounding hint of undergrowth. It’s silky yet lifted, seeming even juicy at times, while ushering in red fruits laced with candied citrus. Mint leaf and hints of tobacco linger through the youthfully tannic finale, along with a subtle hint of heat.

This wine has a lot of value to be had in a glass of this Chardonnay and a nice harmony of toasty richness with bright poppy acid and fresh fruit.

Body and balance sum up the Pinot Bianco, which intrigues the palate with the fruit of the pear and quince aromas combined with a salty minerality.

Creamier and more soothing than the 1998, but brighter and more penetrating as well – a function of further oxidation in cask (although it started life in tank.) It is also far more alluring and complex. Cherry preserves, roasted chestnuts, grapefruit marmalade, and wood smoke. Its sweetness and its near-16% alcohol scarcely in evidence.

An opaque, purple chroma is brilliantly on display in the glass. An alluring fragrance of bright floral notes, violet juxtaposed with intriguing mountain characteristics. The entry is big, dark, and brooding with concentrated berry flavors, black cherry, mocha, and delightful earthy, brambly notes. Soft and lush, the tannins are sublime which offsets a pleasing mineral finish.

Opens with enticing scents of raspberry jam, sweet herbs and spices. There is a centeredness and a poise to the 2009 that give the wine its sense of harmony and total balance. Sweet, floral notes reappear on the engaging finish. As good as this is today, it will only get better in another 2-3 years.
