We know what you're thinking, and no, this wine is not made from oranges. Orange wine comes from skin fermented white grapes, so the juice extracts color, flavor and texture from white skins, giving it its orange hue. Wayward Son is a skin fermented field blend of Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier from the Sierra Foothills.

Contrary to the traditional Corbières, this wine is aged in small oak barrels (not new). The resulting wine is powerful and velvety at the same time. Deep red fruit and earth with an animalistic edge, this is quintisential Corbieres.

The youthful and aromatic 2016 Malbec has an alcohol level that is one degree lower than the 2015, as the grapes where harvested earlier. This ended up being an advantage to produce a light and very drinkable Malbec, balsamic and aromatic, even minty with something that reminded me of basil leaves. A perfect introduction to Mendoza Malbec at a very attractive price.

The nose is full of ripe black fruits with subtle notes of clove, black pepper, and sweet tobacco. On the palate, flavors of black raspberries and cassis yield to more subtle notes of cedar, vanilla, and sweet spice. The fine-grained tannins lend structure to the wine, which has a soft, lingering finish.

The 2016 varietals were all fermented separately. Whole cluster pressed, 24 hours of skin contact, then basket-pressed into stainless steel tanks. It underwent native yeast fermentation. lively aromas of yellow and orange melons, white sage, blood orange zest and dry terra-cotta, with the palate showing white fruits, salinity and energy with a touch of mid-palate weight.

The nose on this blend is rich in exotic smells: lemongrass, honeydew, white flowers and tropical citrus notes. Voluptuous flavors of tangerine and peach followed by marzipan and apricot. Enjoy with or without food. Perfect for a picnic or a nice day on the patio.

Babel, a dry full bodied red with sweet tobacco, blackcurrant and spice on the nose, is a fusion of red berry and chocolate flavours with a chewy mouth-feel and juicy, lingering finish.

The fruit was destemmed, then pressed into stainless steel. All 3 varietals fermented together just over 30 days. The wine was bottled at the beginning of the year. High aromatics with juicy watermelon and grapefruit notes. Spice comes from the Zinfandel, acidity from the Valdiguié and texture from the Trousseau.

Grown from certified organic estate vineyards in Eisenstadt, mainly on limestone terroir. White summer blossom and fresh green pear create a superlight, superfresh opening. The palate continues in the same vein, but with an aromatic, spicy, peppery edge.

Luscious, yet fruity and balanced after six months of barrel aging. White winemaker David Rosenthal dialed down the new wood involved from 35% to 25% for the 2015 vintage, creating aromas and flavors of caramel corn, tropical fruit and vanilla with apple and pear notes. It finishes with a touch of toast, yet the judicious use of oak allows for a fleck of minerality, too.
