To taste the aged reds of Frei João is to taste Portuguese winemaking history. This is a classic, well-aged Bairrada red made from the indigenous Baga, considered Portugal’s most age-worthy red varietal. With its vibrant acidity and minerality, this wine clearly transmits its terroir and cool climatic influence from the Atlantic.

Envinate was founded by four young adults who met while studying oenology, and decided to set up Envínate to develop wines in the different zones from where they came from. Always with the spirit of winemakers and with respect for the land, they aim to intervene as little as possible when transforming the grapes into wine, true craftsman.

The lighter of the two second wines of classed-growth Suduiraut, this is a more accessible reflection of the richness of the grand vin. At four years old, it's still young, its acidity and crisp lemon flavors contrasting its core of botrytis and delicious fruit. Drink this balanced wine from 2020.

Pineau des Charentes is a fortified wine made from either fresh, unfermented grape juice or a blend of lightly fermented grape must, to which a Cognac eau-de-vie is added and then matured. A great apertif!

This is restrained and cool to the point of being all but aromatically mute and only aggressive swirling reveals reluctant notes of red currant, cherry and floral hints. There is an ultra-refined mouth feel to the lacy and almost delicate middle weight flavors that culminate in a linear, balanced and lingering finish. This is pretty much textbook Feusselottes.

Edmund Vatan is thought of in many circles as the single greatest producer in Sancerre, tenderly fashioning a minute amount of wine that is renowned for its purity, depth, expression of terroir, and surprisingly for Sancerre, profound ageability. Aromas of white fruits, citrus fruit, pineapple, as well as pebbly, herbaceous & anise notes. crystalline, very pure, airy, perfect!

This is a great little natural wine to get started on. 100% whole cluster, unfiltered and fermented with wild yeast. It's fresh and easy drinking with great purity. Compare this to Pinot or Rhone and it's a great little value.

This definitely falls into the "new" style of Syrah that's making waves in California. Instead of ripe and overblown, this comes from a cooler, high altitude vineyard that creates a wine with great acidity and low alcohol. There's plenty of finesse in this wine with notes of tropical fruit, black pepper and a subtle note of game. Killer value.

Evangelho Vineyard is one of the most prized and important in all of California. The 130-year-old, head-trained, dry-farmed vines produce wine with amazing concentration and structure. However, the acidity is somehow always well balanced. This creates a wine that is both big and satisfying, yet insanely easy to drink. Not to be missed!
