They fashion a lean and energetic style of Sangiovese from exceptionally rocky vineyards at high elevation, where cool nights confer a bright spine of acidity to provide the juicy, sun-charged wild fruit with a delightfully fresh balance. Ages for 4 months in 20-30hL Slavonian oak botti and 4 months in stainless steel before bottling.

The wine opens with rich, dark plum and blackberry notes, mingled with espresso, saddle leather, smoky meats, and freshly baked bread. Fine, well-integrated tannins, a silky, supple mouth-feel, and balanced acidity make this one of our favorites to pair with winter braises and roasts as well as with savory barbecue as the weather warms. This bold Icewine deserves a full-flavoured, sweet dessert. A terrific dessert wine that will cap a wonderful meal. Redolent of ripe apricot, peach and pear preserves. Lovely honey-infused finish. Bring it on! Food matches: serve slightly chilled on its own, with rich pâtés, fresh fruit, rich (but not overly sweet) desserts or a selection.

Though technically within the Sonoma Valley appellation, the vineyard is actually located about 900 feet up along very steep contoured terraces. We feel lucky to work with such a unique vineyard, as it is very rare to find hillside head-trained old vines.

Old Vines is composed of a variety of old sites from California that are either too small to be made into a vineyard designate wine or are “new” to the Turley family (and way of farming). Vines are anywhere from 41 to 129 years old, and a true representation of California old vine Zinfandel, hailing from vineyards in Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino, Lodi, Contra Costa, Amador and Paso.

One of Italy’s most unique grapes. Lacrima (meaning tears – the grape ‘cries’ when ripe and ready for harvest) is a red grape grown only in the Marche region of central Italy. Intense ruby red with violet reflections, with very intense aroma of roses and violets, with hints of wild berries and spices.

from old vines on very steep slopes and is the softer of the two wines. Classic, rustic Brouilly with pretty notes of tart cherry, strawberries and violet. Lush, rich texture with red currant and spice. If I were serving these two wines together, this would be opened first with charcuterie and young cow’s milk cheeses.
