This lesser known grape from Italy's heel is rumored to have been brought to Puglia by refugees fleeing the Trojan War. This especially warm region produces some powerfully good food wines but rarely any with this level of balanced acidity and subtle brambly blackberry notes. Great with rustic pasta dishes like orecchiette with broccoli rabe & spicy italian sausage.
