The Simonis family has been farming grapes in Ammerschwihr since the 17th century. Etienne Simonis is the current generation in charge and has been returning the estate back to the old ways of doing things. He was raised in the vines, but didn’t officially take over until 1996, eliminating chemical farming in 2000 and receiving Demeter certification in 2011.
