The name says it all. Wine that tastes like a fresh citrus soda (minus all the sugar!!). This is a bright and cheerful sparkling wine out of the southern region of Pfalz in Germany. A blend of local varietals that bring aromatics, laser acidity and just enough fruitiness for all palates to enjoy. Dry finish and light, crispy bubbles with a bottle cap ready for popping!

Lime, orange, and pineapple delivery tangy, zesty, juicy abundance, and the Strubs’ goal of achieving unapologetic but balanced sweetness, delicacy and transparency to nuance is deftly accomplished. The superbly sustained finish is luscious and effusively fruity but also replete with smoky, saline and chalky nuances. This merely 7.5% alcohol bottling vividly testifies to Brückchen’s inherent tendency to engage residual sugar in a sort of disappearing act.

Young couple Josef Schenter & Julia Nather are doing their best to distance themselves from the historically chemical-heavy farming of Kamptal. Whole bunch pressed, fermented in stainless steel. The wine goes through malo in the last 1/3 of primary fermentation as with most white wines by Nibiru. The wine aged for 8 months on fine lees until bottling. Unfined, unfiltered.

You can compare apples to apples but Schonauer is in a class by itself. Schonauer is sweetly tart, with baked apple flavors, and almost no discernable alcohol taste. Schonauer Apple Liqueur was popularized by German university students in the 1970s as the only way to start a party. This is a delicious mix of Germany's best apples and grain spirits.

Chillable red from ex-European BMX champion turned natural wine guru Jochen Beurer. RotGut translates to "good red." A dark, earthy blend of Spatburgunder, Dornfelder and Portugieser, the latter two being rare, but adored Teutonic varieties for their lightness and delicacy. There is a gravelly soil note similar to Bordeaux or Loire reds. Fantastic value from a great producer!

The Weinreich brothers took over the family winery in 2009. Organic farming and trust in traditional winemaking techniques, creates wines with a unique sense of place. This tasty orange wine smells like fizzy grapefruit soda, prickly pear and herbs. It drinks like a fruity black tea with delicate tannins and a mineral finish.

Grown in grey slate on the Marienburg. Spontaneously fermented, macerated extra time on the skins, then matured 15 months on the lees in Clemens’ big old (50+yr) German oak barrels. Unfiltered and unfined. A tiny amount of sulfur was added at bottling, even less than usual. Hazy color; “orange wine” in spirit, but fantastically fresh, energetic and delicious.

Meant to convey the French soul of Holger’s wines—half German, half French—‘Ja Goutte!’ (pronounced ya-GOOT) means “yes, it’s good!” or “yes, I’ll have the last drop!” depending on the interpretation. It has been described in the same breath as a “salty porch pounder” and “fucked up delicious white Burgundy.”

Embracing an impact-conscious ethos that is the backbone of their viticulure and winemaking practice, the enthusiasm brothers Daniel and Jonas have raised attention to little-known region of Pfalz. A level up from the Kaiserstuhl wines are the Herrenstück terraces, whose wines amplify the texture of their lower elevation counterparts without sacrificing freshness. Holger Koch's wines drink like honest-to-goodness Burgundy, with a level of precision and finesse so emblematic of German wine. This particular cuvée, with no sulfur added, is a revelation of Holger’s mastery of Pinot Noir; so unbelievably expressive, so awe-inspiringly beautiful, you’ll shed a tear when pouring the final drops.

From the Herrenstück terrace of Holger’s estate, this Chardonnay is truly a masterclass of what this grape is capable of. Fresh and mineral, with gentle qualities of peach pits, honeysuckle flowers, and a slight creaminess on the finish. Is it Burgundy? Is it German? It is everything and more.

Alcohol-free wine will never have the same depth, structure and mouthfeel as a wine with alcohol, but the ZP5 comes extremely close and tastes impressive! Fruity notes of red currants and cherries are surrounded by a nicely embedded tannin structure and an almost dry finish. Stylistically, it is most similar to French Pinot Noir (think Burgundy). It delivers a very authentic wine-drinking experience and is great on its own or with a meal! Vegan!

Helmut Dolde, alongside his wife Hedwig, have reinvented Württemberg. A former chemist, Helmut works to develop his own synthetics that are more biodegradable and gentler on the land he tends. This 50/50 coferment of Riesling and Silvaner is so quaffable, with bright stone fruits and nervy acidity. In Helmut’s words, this wine “does not polarize.”

A minuscule 4 hectare estate-Julian Haart is making some of the most polished Rieslings in all of the Mosel. At 18 g/l residual sugar, the Moselle offers a glossy texture on the palate with a clean and precise finish.

Yes, really - dry white Pinot Noir from Germany. Perhaps the most perfect summer white, ever, this drinks like Spanish Txakoli, with a light spritz lifting tangy stone and red cherry fruit and a salty, crushed seashell, finish. At 12.0% alcohol, we guess it was too ripe for Sekt, but it's mouthwatering, selzery, fun as beat-the-heat cooler. Seriously delicious and fun.

This is made 100% from young-vine Pinot Noir and some Dornfelder, the grapes of which had no juice because of youth and the dryness of 2022. So instead of this being a mash of old skins and stems, it is in fact fresh grapes, with water added and then everything pressed and fermented. Does this switcharoo, new instead of used grapes, make a big difference? Honestly, I have no idea. But this is fresh AF and super low in alcohol, only 7.5%.

This cuvée is the Riesling Trocken with a rich mineral depth only lees aging can bring. The sandstone and loess soils produce textural wines reminiscent of those in neighboring Alsace, wines with a complexity that fuses lightness and freshness with depth and length. The Riesling Sur Lie spends 18 months in stainless steel on the lees, adding an extra layer of energy and mystery

The vineyard Bönnigheimer Schupen is a slope directly facing south with Gipskeuper soil. In the 1970’s the Pinot Noir vines were planted here in the most limy soils of our estate. Von Buhl Armand Riesling Kabinett is soft yellow-green in color with a beautiful fruity apricot nose and spectacular fireworks of acidity, spirit and mineral character on the tongue. White and yellow sandstone soil gives this wine its exotic, spicy aromas. This medium-bodied white delivers sweet fruit with a dry finish, beautifully balanced with its lively acidity.

Blossoms and berries abound in this vibrantly composed sparkling pinot noir. It's fresh and fruity while also nuanced by hints of caramel and crushed stones. a lavishly textured mousse and fine, persistent bubbles extend the elegant finish.

Hands down the most pure pet nat I’ve tasted! The brothers Brand work certified organic vineyards in the limestone-rich, overlooked region of the northern Pfalz. Nothing of what the brothers do is simple or easy to explain but the wines reflect passion and are highly delicious!

Steel and crushed minerals abound in this taut, nervy Pinot Blanc. Lime and green-apple flavors are cutting and spry, augmented by grippy hints of lime pith. Dry and medium bodied, it finishes long on a lingering chalky tone. Drink now through 2021.

The Weingut Schmitt winery has been in the family for over 200 years. Bianka and Daniel have been working their 16 hectares biodynamically for over a decade and are one of only 80 producers in Germany to be Demeter certified. A racy and funky blend made without sulfur. Certified biodynamic farming. Spontaneously fermented in old oak vessels, no filtering, fining, or additions.

The Estate Riesling Kabinett is made to showcase the traditional, lighter style of Riesling from cooler, higher-elevation parcels adjacent to the top sites (no Kabinett is made from the single-vineyard sites, only Spätlese and above). The 2016 Riesling Kabinett is light and lovely, with lush exotic fruit aromas and a poised balance of bright acidity and lacy natural sweetness.

Vinification is carried out in a combination of fuder and stainless steel, in an hands-off manner with no fining, and predominantly with wild yeasts. The focus is on meticulous work in the vineyard with the aim to produce and bring home perfect fruit. It hails from a steep slate vineyard and receives a teensy smooch of cask, so you get a pike quenelle PB with a slatey energy.

Such an engaging young Syrah from Baden in SW Germany. Black pepper, olive, meaty notes on the nose. People have been saying that this wine is very like Crozes Hermitage. Palate is so lithe and lightweight, yet impactful. Clean, precise and pure. Has some upside. Perfect with the first cool breeze in a while last night.

Grown from the Marienburg vineyard, which Clemens Busch owns nearly in its entirety. Finished fully dry so that the vineyard’s terroir and minerality can shine through, the wine is full-bodied, lush, and densely layered with flavors of apples, apple skins, pear, and minerals. Vivid acidity gives the wine polish and structure.

The Sylvaner vines at Leitz sit at the top of the Rüdesheimer Drachenstein vineyard, along the forest line and are more than 30 years old. The 'Alte Reben' is fermented with native yeasts in old German füder with continued elevage on the lees. This is a ridiculous value, as this wine expresses incredible textures and layers that one would normally find in a more expensive wine.

A cuvée of all Grand Cru vineyards boasting mostly ungrafted vines with a minimum age of 60 years. Mineral driven nose with with citrus and stone fruits. The palate is tart, stoney and moves more towards subtle peach and apricot. A very old estate with roots going back to the 12th century. Gernot Kollmann, bought the estate in 2008 and is one of Germany's top winemakers.

Keller rarely makes off-dry Riesling, and can only do so when the conditions are perfect. When balanced by incredible, juicy fruit and just 9% alcohol, we have the makings for the perfect summer/Sunday brunch wine. A deep, intense nose of lime zest, pink grapefruit and jasmine. It is wonderfully concentrated with peach and apple flavors, followed by a long, stony finish.

The Schlossgut Diel vineyards, castle and winery are of great historical significance. The winery was purchased by the Diel family in 1802 from the Baron Dalberg, who had managed to prevent its confiscation by Napoleon’s troops in 1789.
The great vineyard sites, dedicated vineyard management and meticulous winemaking has led the winery to receive continued acclaim.

An off-dry Riesling wine, typical of this producer. Wonderfully fresh and well defined, with a tingling minerality. Sophisticated with notes of delicious white peaches and ripe apples, but also a great balance of freshness and juiciness. A delicious wine for every day with moderate alcohol and very pleasant acidity.

An old winery built about 250 years ago! The estate is a little larger than many Mosel wineries, but that means about 8 hectares and somewhere between 5000 and 6000 cases of wine per year. Given that they make around 15 different wines per year, this is, in fact, a rather small winery. Light, snappy Riesling with just a bit of residual sugar. It’s delicious, easy drinking!

This SB was selected form stainless steel tanks sourced from 3 vineyards. An unmistakable aroma of juicy gooseberries, limes and fine herbs. A pronounced acidity and fullness. This wine begs you to drink more!

Light bodied, pleasantly mineralic and VERY perfumed! Recommend as a standalone sipper-- or--great with aromatic foods like southeast Asian if you want a red alternative to gewurtz or Riesling.

The Hild family has chosen to grow Elbling with care and focus. Soils in the Upper Mosel are more limestone than slate, due to the swath of the Paris Basin that extends into the region. The chalkiness comes through in this sparkling Elbling, aged in stainless steel, spending nine months on the lees. Bright acidity and ripe, juicy pineapple make for a charming sparkler.

In the foothills of the Alps, this cider is made with a blend of local German apples and Swiss and Austrian pear varieties. The structure tends towards the tart with enough tannin to keep things in balance, despite being more a farmhouse style of cider. Crisp and refreshing, it’s complex with a nice undercurrent of funkiness with notes of pears, honey, floral, gooseberries.

Ruby red with red current aromas. The tannins are smooth and structured with depth and fruit flavors on the pallet. This wine is excellent with cheese and charcuterie platters, ham, pork, poultry, and barbecued meats. From one of the highest vineyards in Germany!

A delicious and (again) perfectly balanced Riesling; glorious fragrance, talc and golden-delicious apples; I don’t remember a better edition of this wine; it’s the perfect classic not-hardly-sweet Kabinett. “Great drinkyness,” as Caroline says. Stretched taut but neither austere nor lean.

Full- bodied and vinous, sweetness of ripe grapes combining with spicy notes of the noble oak- wood, harmonious and enjoyably warming. Slightly smoky notes of wood, nice cocoa notes, stimulating tannins on the finish.

An outstanding vintage for German Riesling! Fermented dry and left in neutral barrel for two years, this wine delivers a precise balance of fleshy stone fruit and dried herbs! Perfect with salty, cured meats.

Hans-Josef, the current winemaker for the J.B. Becker estate keeps older vintages around because, in a way, the wine demands it. Favoring long ageing and preferring a dry style of Riesling, the Becker wines are unlike anything else coming out of the Rheingau. Sip, savor and enjoy!

This rosé of Pinot Noir (incorporating smidgeons of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) is quite enjoyable. Fresh sour cherry and red raspberry offer an invigoratingly tart, pit- and seed-inflected palate presence, while hints of boxwood and wet stone accent a brightly juicy finish. Only a small share of this wine resulted from saignée, and only a small share went through malo.

A broad, powerful kabinett, boasting apple, lemon, brown spice and mineral aromas and flavors. The vibrant structure keeps this focused and balanced. Fine length. 2015 is an amazing vintage for German Riesling and this is a great value!

Bright yellow orange with a finger of dense white froth. Smells sweet with touches of honey, orange, bread and straw. More honey and fruity sweetness to the tongue. Soft for the most part, light in body and clean all the way through.

I could drink this all day.

This offers a delicately ample nose of yellow fruits, ginger and spices. The wine starts off on the round side before fiery acidity brings zest and vibrancy to the finish. This is refreshing, light and elegant and one magically goes for more. The tart side in the finish will disappear with a few years of bottle aging, and it could then easily warrant an even higher rating.

The Kruger-Rumpf winery was founded in 1790 and Stefan Rumpf began producing his own, estate wines rather than selling the juice off in bulk, as had been customary. Vineyards are farmed sustainably and care is taken during the hand harvesting to ensure that only optimally ripe grapes are picked, as Georg does not favor any botrytis. The wine is charming, dry and rose-like

Made not exclusively from their own vineyards the 9% alcohol (plus 20 or 22 grams residual sugar), the Barrel X is an untamed flavored Saar Riesling with a lovely slate aroma and a very sappy and piquant taste. It is lovely juicy and sweet, but also very elegant, and a nothing but lovely type of Kabinett.

Von Buhl winery in Pfalz produces this lovely Pinot Noir rosé. Pale salmon pink, it is crisp and dry, with soft, beautiful fruit and a silken texture.Have a glass before dinner, or with a light first course of marinated vegetables, a salad, or poached salmon. I'd drink it with pad Thai too.

Franz Keller wines are renowned for their charm and nobility, reflecting the Baden/Kaiserstuhl region's mineral-rich volcanic hills with its basalt and loess soil. A crisp dry wine, with a nice harmony of lively acidity and forceful, tasty flavor.

Trocken is the German for Dry. So this wine will still have the beautiful Riesling fruit but the finish will be dry. This means it will be crisp and clean with more of a mineral quality than a sweet finish. These wines are more vibrant and are wonderful food wines. Beautiful fruit with a crisp finish that is simply beautiful.

If you love dry Riesling, you will LOVE this wine. If you don’t know if you like dry Riesling, this should be your litmus test! Crisp and refreshing with elegant acidity.

Messmer has been a family run estate for over 50 years. The family has always believed in preserving terroir and character of the varietal. This is a wine that is a great value but also a beautiful Pinot that offers ripe fruit yet delicate with bright acidity and soft tannins. Wonderfully balanced!
