Rich aromas of agave, chocolate, pineapple & dried cherry appear along with oak and vanilla tones. In the mouth, this is a rich & mouth-coating spirit, with flavors similar to the nose creating a lively counterpoint to the cinnamon & caramel also found. The finish is long & lasting, with gentle fruit notes giving way to a soft cinnamon note with hints of earth & minerality.

2020 Saint Cosme Cote-Rotie105.99Cote-Rotie, Rhone100% Seriene (Syrah)

I loved the 2020 Côte Rôtie, which is certainly the standout from the North. Coming from both the southern and northern ends of the appellation, it’s full-bodied, ripe, and textured, yet never loses a sense of Côte Rôtie elegance. Lots of bacon fat, exotic flowers (I wrote liquid violet in my notes), and gamey blue fruits define the nose, and the balance is spot on, it has silky tannins and is just another brilliant wine.

2019 Miles Garrett Merlot37.99Willow Creek AVA, Humboldt, CaliforniaMerlot

Pretty aromas of violets and plum, this Merlot from Miles Garrett’s 4th vintage ever, is somehow even more lush when you drink it. A former somm from the Netherlands, Lisanne Van Son’s dream of making wine brought her to Noizay in 2017 where she bought a troglodyte cave. She searches for organic vineyards in the Loire and Alsace and handpicks grapes at harvest herself, then driving them back to make low intervention wine. This Chenin is fresh but rich and honeyed, with notes of green apple and pear.

2020 Jauma “Tikka the Cosmic Cat”39.99McLaren ValeShiraz, Grenache

A dark and youthful Shiraz dominant blend, “Tikka”- named after the winery cat- explodes with black fruits, bramble, and peppery spice. Jauma comes to us from James Erskine, a pioneer of the “nothing added, nothing taken away” approach in Australia; all grapes organically farmed by Fiona Wood. This vintage is medium-bodied with a bright, high-tone surprising for Aussie Shiraz.
