It holds its acidity well, balancing it against a backdrop of fruity tangy grapefruit and orange, with a mineral stoniness that's hard to pin down.

Picked at the peak of ripeness, this rustic varietal shows off dark fruits of blackberry, blueberry and hints of cranberry, black pepper, cedar, warm spices and toasty vanilla notes come out after aging this wine in a combination of French and American oak for 9 months.

Cedar, juniper berry and sweet dried herbs greet the nose of this wine, while focused flavors of dried plums, cranberries and cherries sink into a decadent, plush mouthfeel. Saturated and dense, the wine finishes with touches of licorice and spicy oak from the 12 months in 2 year-old American oak barrels.

Opaque, almost black red color. Magnificently rich plum jam and liquorice aromas with hints of dark chocolate on the nose. The 2011 shows big, expressive and intense flavors on the palate. Black fruit dominates but is combined with mocha and coffee, which provides a round, smooth finish with hints of truffle.

Aromas of lemon, lime powder-puff sherbet and a slight mineral hint are supported by some subtle floral notes. A delicate, almost "pretty" mouthfeel with those ever present flavors of lemon, lime citrus showing prominently on the palate. The 2017 Arneis Fox Hill Vineyard is very pretty. Aromatic and pliant, with lovely orchard fruit, chamomile, almond and dried flower notes, the 2017 has a lot to offer. There is a lovely element of softness that emerges with time in the glass and adds quite a bit of character.

One of the finest Grenaches to ever pass my lips, reminding me of an old vine Grenache cuvée from Châteauneuf du Pape, it boasts a huge nose of black raspberries, kirsch liqueur, graphite, ground herbs, and pepper. This is one of those wines that offers incredible intensity and depth, yet still just glides over the palate with no sense of heaviness whatsoever.

On a ridge known as Holmes Gap, rolling southeast at 550 feet in elevation. The Van Duzer Winds rip through the gap and funnel their currents east. Because of this exposure, the fruit ripens much more slowly and retains bright acidity. This wine has focused aromas of fennel, wet gravel and mixed citrus focusing on tangerine and hints of nectarine swirled with flint. The palate is muscular with mouthwatering acidity and a long bright finish.

With neighbors like Lugny and Vire-Clesse, you know Uchizy must be pretty good. Pierre Meurgey's first harvest of Uchizy was in 2013, and that was the birth of this lovely un-oaked Chardonnay he's been making ever since. Meurgey-Croses is not the fleshy or overly fruited style of Chardonnay; it is aromatic, mineral-driven and fresh.
