Pre-phylloxera vines, planted to limestone soils in the cooler area of the D.O. yield grapes which are carefully harvested and respectfully vinified and aged to create this delicious value red.

This has a lovely purple color to it, with ripe plum and blackberry aromas. In the mouth the black fruit is joined by some darker chocolate notes and a hint of spice. This is smooth and drinkable, great value for drinking now but enough grip to lay down for a couple of years.

Firm and well-structured, with a pleasing burst of blackberry and wild berry, plum and black cherry notes, tilting into a fruit-bowl medley of currant and raspberry flavors, with a long, sustained finish. Drink now through 2029.

Sandhi is a small production California winery focusing on select vineyards from the Sta. Rita Hills in Santa Barbara County and was founded in 2010 by Rajat Parr, the wine director for Michael Mina Restaurants, and esteemed winemaker, Sashi Moorman. Sandhi represents a union essential to the production of wine: the collaboration between man, earth, and vine.

The grapes used to compose this vintage come from three aged parcels located in the beautiful terroir of Les Chétillons at Le Mesnil sur Oger. The minerality of the chalky soil is evident in this 100% Grand Cru Chardonnay. As always with a vintage Champagne, it is produced exclusively using the grapes from one harvest year and only during the finest years.

Planted in the sandy, clay soils of La Morra. The grapes are fermented in steel with 3-4 days on the skins. The wine matures in French oak barriques (30% new) for 24 months. Today, the 2013 reminds me of the 2008, but with more depth, density and creaminess - especially through the middle - and slightly redder fruit tones.

From two single vineyards in the village of La Morra, Bricco Manescotto and Annunziata, which accentuate the more ethereal and finer Nebbiolo’s aromatics and structure. These crus, that could be potentially used for Barolo, are declassified and the grapes vinified and aged to be Langhe Nebbiolo. A beautiful introduction to this noble grape and region.
