Merlot and old Cabernet Sauvignon vines, which profit from good sunlight exposure and set in clay-limestone soil, make up this top-of-the-range cuvée from Château Puynard. Vinified in stainless steel vats and then aged in French oak barrels (30% new barrels) for around 15 months, the batches are then blended and bottled after a light filtration, without fining.

The Magnolia Chardonnay is fermented at low temperature to preserve the freshness and bright fruit and minerals. Aged 100% in French oak, only 10% new, to give texture and elegance without heavy oak influence. Fresh pear and apple fruits with white floral notes attack the front palate, round and mouth filling with a clean, bright citrus and mineral finish.

Cour Cheverny has only existed as an AOC since 1997; François Cazin was instrumental in the drive to establish it to save this ancient local variety. The Cazin vines are planted on clay-limestone soils; some go all the way back to 1928. The farming is sustainable and the harvest by hand. Le Petit Chambord is the historical name of the property and appears on all of its labels.

The Douro valley in Portugal has been famous for centuries as its steep rocky slopes have produced the fortified wines of Port. The vineyards there have more nuanced stories to tell however as in this field blend from vines more than 60 years old. Wild ripe strawberry on the nose is balanced by silky tannins and bright acidity. This beguiling red is perfect for a backyard BBQ!

While the Bietighöfer Family has a deep-rooted history in viticulture dating back to the 17th century, the current generation Stefan Bietighöfer has converted this 100 acre estate in the rolling hills of the Pfalz to biodynamic agriculture. He is also inspired by time spent in Burgundy and makes classic old world wines like this Pinot Blanc with bright lemon and hints of oak!

Pato’s 2000 Quinta do Moinho is a masterclass in Baga and its uncanny ability to mimic mature Bordeaux and top Nebbiolo with bottle age. It bursts with a dizzying amount of dried red plums, currants, pipe tobacco, wild herbs, dried roses and violets, pepper, leather, dried orange peel, coffee grounds, cloves, cedar, and underbrush with a slight salinity.

A complex wine that’s easy to drink with a sleek texture; perfect for parties, picnics, backpacking and the table. Brimming scents of desiccated berry fruits, a touch of green herbs and tar carry to the palate with sour cherries, red and black plums, gentle tannins, and excellent concentration.

The wine, formerly known as Essence d’Automne, is mind-bendingly complex, with aromas of white pear, dried apricot, peach and green tea. The palate is rich and full with a silky texture and enough dry extract to offer good structure. The wine is surprisingly balanced for a late-harvest Viognier.
